Until my 5-week-old son Ben came along, I never realized how easy I had it when it came to breastfeeding my daughter Sadie.  Sadie took to breastfeeding like a fish to water, and we had a fabulous nursing relationship.  My breastfeeding relationship with Ben, however, has been less than ideal.  Without getting into the specifics, let's just say that Ben has had some very tricky feeding issues that have rendered breastfeeding a difficult, if not impossible, proposition.  That being said, I still desperately want Ben to experience the benefits of breastmilk, so I've been pumping away on a massive hospital-grade pump that was, quite literally, designed for dairy cows.  And, unlike the pumping sessions that I had when I was nursing Sadie, which yielded so much breastmilk I hardly knew what to do with all of it, the pumping sessions I'm currently experiencing have not been so productive.

In an effort to boost my milk supply, I've turned to any and all remedies rumored to stimulate milk production, including fenugreek, Guinness, and nursing tea.  These are all well and good, but it wasn't until I discovered milkmakers lactation cookies that I found a delicious alternative to alleviate my milk supply woes.  Yes, you read that right - cookies that can boost your milk supply!  Made with all natural ingredients with no preservatives, milkmakers cookies include ingredients such as oats, brewer's yeast and flax seed - traditional remedies used to help increase breastmilk production.  You can choose from either Oatmeal Chocolate Chip or Oatmeal Raisin, each of which is freshly baked and lasts for quite some time in the freezer.   Emily Kane, milkmakers' founder, was kind enough to send me a sample pack of the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip variety, which was absolutely delicious!  I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the cookies softened up once I removed them from the freezer, and that they maintained their yummy, fresh-baked taste even after being frozen.

So, do these cookies actually work?  Well, since I've been implementing so many different remedies in my efforts to boost my breastmilk production, it would be impossible for me to point to these cookies specifically as the magic bullet that has increased my supply.  And although my supply has increased, it's certainly nowhere near the geyser-like flow it was at when I was nursing Sadie.  I will say, however, that milkmakers' lactation cookies are the most delicious weapon in my breastmilk boosting arsenal!  And, since working milkmakers' cookies into my lactation boosting efforts, I've absolutely noticed an increase, if ever so slight, in my supply.  Indeed, when I ran out of the sample batch of milkmakers cookies, I witnessed a dropoff in milk supply until my new shipment (which I gladly purchased on my own) arrived at my door.  I'm now back to happily devouring one or two milkmakers cookies each day, and plan to continue this delicious habit for as long as I'm supplying my baby with breastmilk!
