Join Mike the Knight on His Mission of the Month!
Huzzah! Join Mike the Knight on his knightly missions!
It's no secret that my 4-year-old daughter Sadie is completely princess obsessed. This is no joke; the kid lives, eats, sleeps and breathes princesses. So when the folks at HIT Entertainment invited us to a party celebrating the launch of the Mike the Knight "Mission of the Month" program, I was curious to see how Sadie would respond to royalty in another form. Turns out, Mike is not only a great role model for boys, but also a natural extension of the princess phenomenon for girls. Sadie immediately took to the idea of donning some knightly attire in the form of balloons shaped as swords, shields and helmets, and was delighted when Mike himself arrived to greet the party-goers (ok, so maybe her reaction to Mike didn't rival that of her first encounter with Snow White, but then again, what could?).
So what's this new CG-animated show all about? Here's the scoop. Through comedy and adventure, the Mike the Knight series transports kids to a world of castles, dragons, and trolls. Kids accompany Mike on knightly missions, where they learn problem-solving, self-confidence, and how to do the right thing. Mike is an energetic, cheeky yet bountiful young knight-in-training, driven by his passion to help others and, along the way, be the best knight he can be. With his father, the King, away exploring faraway lands, Queen Martha has put Mike in charge of helping her protect the Kingdom of Glendragon. Determined to do his best, through comedy and adventure with his rallying cry, "Be a Knight, do it right," Mike learns the power of responsibility and how to do things the right way. With a little help from his Big Book for little Knights in training, the would-be-hero rises to each episode's mission with the help of his closest friends: Sparkie and Squirt a pair of friendly, quirky dragons, and his trusty steed Galahad. Never far from the action and always willing to help out is Mike's fun and free-spirited sister Evie, a wizard in training. Topping and tailing each episode is Fernando, the resident bard, who acts as the storyteller.
As if the show itself weren't exciting enough, Mike the Knight fans have even more reason to celebrate, as knights-in-training can now join Mike on his knightly missions via a new Facebook feature. Huzzah! Each month, kids and their parents/caregivers will be asked to perform a new mission on Mike’s Facebook page. After each one is accomplished, you and your knight-in-training will receive a special award badge which you can attach to your Mission of the Month poster. Follow the instructions on the training guide, and remember, Be a Knight, do it right!
