It's Fun to Play at the Vanderbilt YMCA!
This East side gem is your one-stop shop for activity, enrichment and fun for the whole family!
Even before our tour, my daughter Sadie and I were familiar with the Vanderbilt Y’s fabulous swimming facilities, as Sadie has been taking private swimming lessons there over the past few months. And lest you think “private” means “fancy,” think again, as the Y offers these lessons at super affordable prices, especially when your child joins the Y as a member (more on that in a minute). We’ve been thrilled with the quality of instruction Sadie has received from her swim teacher Ivy, who is incredibly patient with Sadie and has helped her conquer her fear of the water.
Sadie loves going to the Y for her lessons, and was eager to see more of it when we explored it with Membership Director Tiffany Dunbar last week. Needless to say, our tour did not disappoint. Sadie was thrilled when she discovered that the Vanderbilt Y not only houses the West Pool in which Sadie takes her swim lessons, and in which families can come to enjoy “Family Swim” time, but also contains an East Pool, which is sectioned off into lanes for lap swimmers of varying speeds. From the pool area, we went upstairs to see the studio spaces in which kids and adults of all ages can take classes such as tumbling, ballet, tap, pilates, yoga, Zumba, spin, Capoeira, kettlebell, ballroom dancing and much, much more. From there, we explored the Y’s weight training and cardio exercise areas, housed on multiple floors of the facility with plenty of machines and weight stations that looked to be in perfect condition, before making our way to the basketball court and indoor running track.
Before leaving, Sadie and I made sure to check out the Family Locker Room and Early Childhood Center, where the Y provides flexible child care for kids ages 6 months through 5 years of age. We also got the inside scoop on all the family-friendly programming offered at the Vanderbilt Y, including free child watch services, free family preschool open gym, birthday party options in the gym, studio space or pool, family night activities, kids’ night out (aka parents’ night off!), My Grown-Up & Me Classes (singing stories, gym classes, preschool Spanish, Art, etc.), aquatics classes for all ages, and so much more. Pretty impressive, right? And the best part is that pretty much every class and activity (with some exceptions, of course) is included in your membership fee.
Speaking of membership, the Vanderbilt Y offers a variety of membership options, including memberships just for kids (Sadie is a member, of course), for individual adults and for the entire family. And when you join between now and October 8th, you’ll pay no Joiner’s Fee, so if you’re thinking of joining (and why wouldn’t you be?), now is the perfect time! Whether you’re looking to get healthy, stay fit, enroll your child in a fabulous new class or meet new friends, the Vanderbilt Y is the place for you!
