Check out the full event calendar here but below are my Top 10 picks for events and activities happening in and around the Upper East Side this week. Don't miss out on all the fun, and please be sure to let them know you saw it in Macaroni Kid NYC Upper East Side! Events are subject to change or cancellation. TOP 10 for the Week


Friday, August 13th

1. Sunset on the Hudson - One of HRPK’s longest-running music series, Sunset on the Hudson kicks off summer weekends just right—with local artists and performers bringing free concerts right to you. August 13 – Yasser TejedaPier 45.

2. NYC FREE: On-Site Opera: The Perfect Pig City @ Little Island - Opera meets play in the New York premiere of The Perfect Pig, a whimsical show featuring a singer and a large-scale puppet as the title character. This charming family opera and endearing tale of discovering one’s own beauty unfolds in an intimate staging by On Site Opera, specialists in tailoring productions to unique venues like the Glade. Performances run 20 minutes.

3. Bird Bungalow Take and Make Kit @ Lowe's - Bring your child to Lowe's and they can build their feathered friends the perfect home!  

4. Fifth Annual NYC Math Festival @ National Museum of Mathematics - Add a little math to your summer!  MoMath is pleased to present the fifth in-person NYC Math Festival from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, providing a full day of math fun in the sun for all ages.  Bring your friends and the entire family to Fosun Plaza at 28 Liberty St. and enjoy hands-on math exhibits, entertaining mathematical games, and intriguing puzzles and brainteasers.  Plus, take home a little bit of MoMath: we’ll be setting up an outpost of Additions, the shop at MoMath, for all your summer gift needs.

5. Sprinkler Day @ Asphalt Green - It’s hot, hot, hot! Don’t let the soaring summer temperatures discourage you from enjoying the outdoors. Cool off by splashing around in Asphalt Green’s sprinklers!


Sunday, August 15

6. 40th Annual Battery Dance Festival: India Day @ Robert F. Wagner Park - The Battery Dance Festival returns with in-person shows this summer—an entire week of free evening performances featuring top-tier dancers from the U.S. and around the globe, including debuts and premieres.  August 15, 2021 - India Day. 

7. Kites and Cricket in Central Park - Flying kites on Independence day is a cultural tradition in northern Indian states like Delhi (Shahjahanabad or Old Delhi), Lucknow, Bareilly, and Moradabad. There will be materials and to help you make your own paper kite. The entry fee applies to a single registrant who wants to make a kite or learn to play cricket. This is open to kids and adults of all ages. Parents will need to help their children make their kites.


Monday, August 16

8. Free Play @ National Museum of Mathematics - Come enjoy Free Play!  From 10:00 to 11:00, admission to MoMath will be completely free!  Come enjoy all your favorite exhibits — and if you have friends who have never been to the Museum, there’s no better time to bring them along. 

9. Baby Lapsit @ Yorkville Library - Experience the fun and joy of Baby Lapsit! Babies from birth to 18 months old (Pre-Walkers) and their parents/ caregivers can enjoy great books, lively songs rhymes, and meet other babies in the neighborhood.


Tuesday, August 17

10. Mandarin Immersion Music & Play @ Carl Schurz Park - Sing in Mandarin Chinese with your baby! Our popular Mandarin music class - the Swallow Singalong program - is an easy, fun and wonderful introduction to the Mandarin Chinese language. Children become familiar with the nuances and intonations of the language through the sounds of the lyrics and participate by singing along with the teacher and moving their bodies with the music. Our songs include classic Chinese nursery rhymes, folk songs and popular nursery rhymes from around the world all sung in Mandarin Chinese. They are curated by our music educators to teach the children conversations and greetings as well as colors, counting, seasons and days of the week all in Mandarin Chinese.
