TOP 10 for the Week

Friday, March 11th

1. Virtual: Storytime at the 96th Street Library- Famous Women of History - Join us for a read-aloud of books about inspirational women activists.  ages 4-6. 

2. Virtual: The Popups youtube video premiere at the Jewish Museum - Catch the pop grooves and high energy of the Grammy-nominated band The Pop Ups as they share a one-of-a-kind virtual performance. Experience drawing with music, hilarious puppets, and an epic costume party just in time for Purim! Hear favorites from their hit albums Giants of Science, Radio Jungle, and more. Ages 3-8. FREE with RSVP | Donations gratefully accepted.


Saturday, March 12th

3. Storytime at the New York Botanical Gardens -  Watch the wonders of winter unfold at the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden! Climb the boulders to reach our telescope and peer across to the landscape to the forest and frozen wetland. Walk along the story trail to read Where’s Rodney?, an empowering book about a boy’s connection to nature and the outdoors written by Carmen Bogan and illustrated by Floyd Cooper. Stop at the Swamp Oak Story Spot to hear a book from our little library. Adults $25 (Mon-Fri), $35 (Sat-Sun); Children (2-12) $12 (Mon-Fri), $15 (Sat-Sun). Story Time at 1:30 PM.

4. Coding Skills at the Madison Avenue Apple Store: Swift is a powerful programming language created by Apple that’s used to build many popular apps. And Swift Playgrounds is an app for iPad that makes learning how to code interactive and fun. In this 60-minute session, we’ll show you how to get started with coding using the Swift Playgrounds app. Bring your iPad or we’ll provide one. Recommended for beginner coders ages 12 and up. Free. 10:00 am - 11:00 am

5. Virtual: Just Kidding livestream concert- Elena Moon Park - Voyage to East Asia and around the globe as multiple award-winning Elena Moon Park & Friends perform reimagined children’s music, folk songs, and original tunes in a variety of languages. Her newest album Unhurried Journey is a collection of songs for all ages that celebrates the beauty of taking our time to appreciate every moment of our individual and collective journeys. The album is inspired by the artwork of Kristiana Pärn, and features original songs based on her artwork plus reimagined folk and children's songs from East and Southeast Asia. Ages 2 and up - open to anyone anywhere (livestreamed). Free. 11:00 am - 12:00 pm.

6. Girls in Science and Engineering at the Intrepid: Join us on Saturday, March 12 as the Intrepid Museum safely brings back the in-person 8th annual Girls in Science & Engineering Day. From 11:00am-3:00pm, families, chaperoned school/youth groups and teens are invited to celebrate women and girls in STEM. Enjoy hands-on experiences, exciting demonstrations and engaging discussions provided by science-based organizations, college programs and New York City public school students. All are encouraged to attend this program. Free with pre-registration.


Sunday, March 13th

7. Wake up Daisy at the Sweedish Cottage Marionette Theatre: Wake Up, Daisy! An original story and marionette production, this modern take on Sleeping Beauty is perfect for the whole family. 11AM and 1PM.  $8-$12

8. Nerf Event at Fastbreak Sports - Kids ages 10 to 12 are invited to sign up for a Nerf Gun Battle. Two event times - 2 to 3 pm and 3:15 to 4:15 pm. $35.

Monday, March 14th

9. Open Play for Ages 6 months to 6 years at TLB Music: The Playroom is filled with fun, eco-friendly, developmental toys and activities for babies, toddlers, and children ages 6 months-6 years. Everything was chosen to enhance your child's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being. 12:30 p.m. -5:00p.m. (arrive no later than 4:00 p.m.) Inside the Playroom you'll find:

  • a clubhouse
  • a slide for toddlers and a slide for big kids
  • a play kitchen and market filled with everything kids need to "cook" just like at home!
  • a rock climbing mountain
  • big soft blocks in various shapes to stack, sort, or create a fort.
  • a great selection of books for babies to beginning readers
  • ride-on cars
  • a magnetic "word wall"
  • a train table and mini cars
  • puzzles and more!

Tuesday, March 15th

10. Virtual: Learn how to Make and Plant a Tropical Terrarium: Join Meredith as she unboxes the Creativity for Kids Tropical Terrarium! She will demonstrate how to decorate, plant and water your own terrarium. She will also share tips and tricks on how to care for and grow your plant. Ideal for ages 7+. Skill Level: All Levels. 3pm.
