Book Review: Sage Sails The World

By Natasha Chokshi, Contributing Writer August 20, 2026

Imagine a world where the ocean becomes too warm for our favorite sea creatures to survive. Big climate problems can feel overwhelming, especially for young children, but Sage Sails the World shows that even the smallest hands can make a difference.

Growing up, Sage loved listening to her grandmother’s stories about her trip to the Great Barrier Reef. She dreamed of setting sail herself and seeing schools of fish, sea turtles, starfish, and a bustling underwater world. But when Sage finally arrives, the reef is strangely empty. There are no sea turtles, no starfish, no fish, and not even coral or seaweed. Her guide explains that the ocean has become too warm, damaging the ecosystem and threatening the life that depends on it.

Instead of feeling helpless, Sage decides to do something. She starts with simple actions like turning off lights, planting trees, and picking up trash before it reaches the ocean. She shares what she has learned with her friends, and together they get to work. Soon, the water begins to cool and life starts returning to the reef.

Sage Sails the World is an encouraging reminder that change can start with small steps. It gives young readers an empowering message: you do not have to be grown-up to care for the planet or make a difference.
