New York, NY (May 16, 2023) - Barnes & Noble, the world's largest bookseller, yesterday announced the opening of its new store on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The new store, located at 1556 Third Avenue, is the company's first new location in New York City in over a decade.

The Upper East Side store is a smaller-format location than Barnes & Noble's traditional stores, at just over 8,000 square feet. However, it will still offer a wide selection of books, including new releases, bestsellers, and a wide selection of children's books. The store will also have a café, offering coffee, tea, and pastries.

The opening of the new store is a welcome addition to the Upper East Side, which has been without a Barnes & Noble since the company closed its previous location on East 86th Street in 2020. The new store is located in a prime location, across the street from the Whole Foods Market on Third Avenue.

"We are thrilled to return to the Upper East Side," said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. "This is a vibrant neighborhood with a loyal community of book lovers. We look forward to serving our customers with the best selection of books, along with a comfortable and inviting space to browse and relax."

The opening of the new store is part of Barnes & Noble's ongoing growth strategy. In recent years, the company has opened a number of new stores, both in the United States and internationally. The company has also invested in its digital business, with the launch of its Nook e-reader and Nook app.

The opening of the new store on the Upper East Side is a positive sign for the future of bookselling. In recent years, the book industry has faced a number of challenges, including the rise of e-books and online retailers. However, Barnes & Noble remains committed to brick-and-mortar bookstores, and the opening of the new store is a testament to the company's belief in the power of physical books and the importance of community.
