Description
1. The Rink Is Free! (If You Bring Your Own Skates)
Bryant Park’s ice skating rink is NYC’s only free-admission rink. If you have your own skates, you can hit the ice without spending a dime! If you don’t have skates, rentals are available (starting at around $18 per pair).
2. Reservations Are Required
To ensure smooth entry, make a reservation online before you go. Walk-ins are allowed if space is available, but slots can fill up fast—especially on weekends and holidays.
3. Rink Hours
The Rink is open daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, weather permitting. Keep in mind that peak times (weekends, evenings, and holidays) can be busier.
4. Location and Directions
The Rink is located in the heart of Bryant Park, behind the New York Public Library at 42nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. It’s easily accessible by subway (B/D/F/M at 42nd St-Bryant Park or 7 at 5th Ave).
5. What to Bring
- Warm Layers: Outdoor skating can get chilly, so dress warmly with gloves, a scarf, and a hat.
- Socks: Thick socks are a must for comfort in rental skates.
- Skates or Rental Fees: If bringing your own skates, be sure they’re in good condition.
6. Bag Check Policy
Large bags and backpacks are not allowed on the ice, but lockers are available for a small fee. Bring a credit card or small bills for locker rental.
7. Skating Aids for Beginners
For little ones or new skaters, penguin skating aids are available for rent. They provide extra balance and confidence while on the ice.
