TOP 10 for the Week

Friday, February 18th

1. Virtual: Stories of Heroes - Join us for a read-aloud of books about inspirational African American Musicians. for children ages 5-12. This online program is geared toward parents/caregivers and their children. Both the parent/caregiver and the child must be present during the program: unaccompanied adults or children will be asked to leave the program. Ages 5-12. Free.


Saturday, February 19th

2. Kids Week at the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum - Kids Week is back, and moving full STEAM ahead! Children of all ages and interests will learn about science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through fun-filled activities, live animal shows, hands-on workshops, performances, special guests, and interactive demonstrations designed to educate and inspire. Kids enjoy FREE admission with the purchase of an adult ticket.

3. Black Future Festival at Brooklyn's Children's Museum - This Black History Month, reflect on the past and look towards the future. Join À แนฃแบน Dance Theatre Collective for a week of interactive dance performances, storytelling, genealogy workshops, quilting in the ColorLab art studio, tasty food, and more. Fun for the whole family! General admission $13 | Grandparent $12 | Child under 1 free

4. Story time at the New York Botanical Gardens: Enjoy story time at Swamp Oak Story Spot on weekends at 1:30 PM. Watch the wonders of winter unfold at the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden! Climb the boulders to reach our telescope and peer across to the landscape to the forest and frozen wetland. Walk along the story trail to read Where’s Rodney?, an empowering book about a boy’s connection to nature and the outdoors written by Carmen Bogan and illustrated by Floyd Cooper. Stop at the Swamp Oak Story Spot to read a book from our little library featuring winter and Black History Month stories, and use our Winter in the Garden scavenger hunt to search for wintertime treasures like nests, birds, tracks, and buds. You can also put on a wintertime plant part picnic in our Playhouse, build a kid-sized nest using natural materials, and scan the frozen pond for wildlife at the Pond Pavilion. Sunday, February 20th

5. Air Play at the New Victory Theater- The Acrobuffos are back! Circus and science collide when these globetrotting clowns return with their sold-out spectacle, Air Play (New Victory 2018). With knowing smiles and suitcases full of surprises, this comedic duo elicits gales of laughter as they transform ordinary objects into uncommon beauty. This delightful, flightful homage to the power of air will take your breath away as the Acrobuffos goad gravity and make really, really, really high art out of the very thing we breathe. Ages 5+. Starting from $20.

6. Free Historic Ship Tours at Pier 16-  A 19th-century vessel. An early 20th-century lightship. Here and now. The Seaport Museum provides a rare opportunity to board and tour the 1885 tall ship Wavertree and the 1908 lightship Ambrose, which are moored at Pier 16 as part of the Museum’s collection. Access the multiple decks on Ambrose. Visit the cargo hold on Wavertree. Learn about life at sea and the days of the ships’ captains and crews. Entry is free. 


Monday, February 21st

7. Mozart for Munchkins: Winter Warm-up with Cool Jazz at CAMP - Little jazz cats - come warm-up and play! This jazz performance will be sure to get you and your little ones toasty and tapping their toes! This concert series is for lovers of jazzy brass, dancing, and bubbles. Kids and Adults! Child Ticket: $30; Adult Ticket: FREE


Tuesday, February 22nd 

8. Kids Week at Bryant Park: Kids Week returns this year for outdoor fun during midwinter recess! Kids rule the rink during Kids Week mornings! Book any skate time between 9:25am to 9:55am am to skate along to your favorite kids’ songs, use a skate aid for free, or join a group skating lesson. Free 30-minute group skate lessons each morning. Warm-up and get the family’s creative juices flowing with a new craft every day. Spend the last day of the Winter Olympics at Bryant Park! Join us for a winter-themed obstacle course, pop-up fitness classes just for kids, and visit our Olympics crafting station.


Wednesday, February 23rd

9. VIRTUAL: Family Workshop: Folded Watercolors with the Museum of Modern Art: Join us for a series of workshops spotlighting Black artists in celebration of Black History Month. Each week we’ll focus on a different artist and artwork, then create our own project inspired by their process. This week, go with the flow! Look closely at a vibrant abstract watercolor by Sam Gilliam, then see how your colors blend in your own folded-paper watercolor. Recommended for ages 5+. Suggested materials: watercolor paints (or other paints that have been diluted); watercolor paper or bristol board; paintbrush or sponge; water. Ages 5+. Free w/Registration.


Thursday, February 24th

10. Discovery Walk for Families at the Ramble in Central Park: Get "lost" with us in the Ramble! Explore how this carefully planned woodland provides habitat for a variety of wildlife. $5 per family (2 adults, 4 children max).  90 minutes for 0.49 miles. Starts at Belvedere Castle. $5 per family. 10:00 am
